Umashree's insensitive stand on Bangalore school rape

The actress-turned-politician shrugged off responsibility for the crime
Umashree's insensitive stand on Bangalore school rape
Umashree seems to have made quite a transformation into a politician. The actress-turned-politician was in Nanjangud recently, and being the minister for women and child development, it was only natural that reporters quizzed her on the rise in the number of rapes in Bangalore and the state. This seems to have irked Umashree, who was evasive with her replies.
When prodded further, Umashree said that instead of attacking the government, one must start thinking of ways to tackle sexual violence.
She went on to add that she was not part of the home ministry and can only do what she is allowed to within the limitations of the women and child development ministry.
There has been widespread outrage over the rape of a six year old in a Bangalore school recently. When asked to comment on this, the minister took a rather insensitive stand and said that since the rape took place in a school, it comes under the education department, and not hers.
