Maharashtra's Industries Minister Narayan Rane resigned from the Cabinet on Monday. Mr. Rane, who belongs to the Congress had announced his decision last week. Mr. Rane had been pushing for the replacement of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan after the party's rout in the Lok Sabha elections. But once, the Congress high command decided to back Mr. Chavan, Mr. Rane saw fewer options for himself.
Mr. Rane has been open about his unhappiness with the party high command for bypassing him for the post. He had reportedly been offered a chance to be Chief Minister when he switched from the Shiv Sena to the Congress in 2005.
The politician had quit his Cabinet post in May after his son Nilesh Rane was defeated in the Lok Sabha polls from Konkan. However, the party had not accepted his resignation.
