New interim Tripura governor arrives

July 21, 2014 02:09 pm | Updated 02:09 pm IST - AGARTALA:

Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya has arrived in Agartala on Sunday to take additional charge of Tripura. He earlier took oath as Governor of Nagaland on Saturday.

An official communiqué said that Mr. Acharya will assume office at Raj Bahvan in Agartala tomorrow. He was given a rousing welcome upon his arrival in Agartala.

Former national secretary of the BJP was recently appointed as the Governor of Nagaland with additional charge of Tripura. Though vacancies in other Northeastern states have been filled the NDA government at the centre remained undecided over appointment of a permanent Governor in Tripura.

On June 30 last Mizoram Governor Vakkom B Purushothaman had another additional charge of Tripura. But within days he resigned after getting transferred to Nagaland.
