Beauties and baubles added a generous dose of sparkle to the India International Jewellery Week 2014, organised by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), which saw showstoppers like Sridevi (for Golecha Jewels), Parineeti Chopra (for Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers) and Yaami Gautam (for Rio Tinto presented by Nazraana), among others.
Opulence was the keyword of the day at the Nazraana presents IIJW 2014 in association with PCJ.

Rio Tinto’s Nazraana show, which showcased seven beautiful collections, featured a line of sparkling diamonds with many combinations and permutations of infinity swirls, lucky charms and heart motifs in neckpieces, designs in delicate floral forms, heritage motifs in lacy filigree pendants, pieces inspired by divine bonds with precious stones, modern options revolving around tasselled rubies, and a luxurious line for men. Nazraana brand ambassador Yaami Gautam was the showstopper. Sonam too attended the show.
Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers showcased their AKS collection for which Parineeti Chopra turned showstopper. A feast for the eyes, the show opened with supermodels Ujjwala Raut, Nina Manuel and Dipannita Sharma showcasing regal jewellery. From stunning vintage coins worn by royalty in the past, the inspirations moved to magical designs believed to protect the wearer. A coin bangle with medieval India as its inspiration was one of the eye-catchers as were giant pendants shaped like minarets, and ruby collars.
Golecha Jewels presented by HRD Antwerp showcased bridal jewellery with gold and precious stones along with diamonds that were turned into ornate pieces, each speaking highly of intricate craftsmanship. Necklaces with rubies, myriad hair ornaments and a large carved Ganesha pendant on a polki necklace added to the extravaganza. Sridevi was their showstopper.
The NID (Ahmedabad) by Sun Jewels show featured six collections of four entries each, presented by seven students of the Lifestyle Accessory Design batch. From wearable pieces to beautiful ornaments, the creations were high on design and the coiled metal strips looked stunning. The participating students were Anshula Mittal, Sanskruti Thorat, Shristi Gupta, Sukanya Pasi, Tanaya Agarwal, Manoj Kuldeep and Krupa Patel.

Kriti Sanon turned showstopper for the Mahabir Danwar Jewellers and KIK Jewels show, which showcased both Indian and western options. Polki bibs with pear-shaped earrings, 3D jewelled flowers, and a raani haar with carved deities in antique gold made quite the statement. Kriti wore a diamond tree design necklace spread over the shoulders.
Blending the beauty of the East and West, Saboo Fine Jewels showcased three collections — ‘Yaksha Kuba’, inspired from royal Rajput and Mughal eras, ‘Lissome’ featuring cut diamonds and ‘Kaustubh’, which included the magnificent ‘Chandra Mukta’, designed with natural Basra and seed pearls.
Emerald’s ‘Athena’ collection had an array of necklaces, earrings and bracelets flecked with rubies and emeralds. Inspired by the beauty of Mughal architecture and natural geometric lattice patterns, the contemporary designs were stunning.
The ‘Astitva’ collection, presented by 23 designers from the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, Jaipur, in association with Derewala World Jewellery was divided into two segments — the first being a tribute to architecture from across India and the second an ode to the beauty of the City Palace, Jaipur. Side ribbed cuff with gold chains, a peacock inspired pendant and minarets on armlets caught our eye.
