Cops in Greater Kailash file case after three months of delay against six men accused of attacking two men in Zamrudpur market

After a delay of more than three months, the Greater Kailash-I police on Friday finally registered a case against six men, including bouncers, for attacking two men in Zamrudpur market.
One of the complainants, a supervisor of a security agency, suffered a broken shoulder bone in the attack that followed a verbal spat over washing of a car on April 2. Complainant Praveen Kumar has accused the police of deliberately delaying filing of the case. The police, on the other hand, are claiming that they were awaiting the medical examination report of the victim before taking any steps. Kumar said on April 2 he was going to Zamrudpur Market with a friend when a man named Hetram, who was washing a car outside a bungalow in A Block, intentionally splashed water on him.
"Hetram and I got into a scuffle after I objected to it. Around half an hour later, Hetram came to my office in GK-I A block with bouncers and attacked us with a baseball bat, due to which my shoulder broke," he said. He also alleged that instead of taking him and his friend to the hospital, the police took them to the police station first. They were later taken to All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) trauma centre.
According to a police official investigating the matter, the delay in registering the case was due to Praveen's medical report. On the same day Praveen lodged a police complaint, Hetram had also approached the police to register a counter case. However, in Hetram's case the police registered an FIR without getting Hetram's medical report, even though the FIR says the medical report is pending.
Praveen accused the police of favouring Hetram due to the "good relationship" he shares with the police. "Every time I went to the police station to get an update on my case they would refuse to register a case. Later, we took the help of court and then the matter was finally registered," he said.
According to Praveen's medical report, he suffered grievous injuries as a blunt weapon was used. Besides a broken shoulder, he suffered injuries on his leg, face, stomach, backbone, etc. According to sources, doctors had given a brief medical report on the same day but the police didn't register the matter.
