Claiming that former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had trifurcated the MCD without ensuring proper staff, financial viability and other administrative requirements, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay indicated on Sunday that there may be a review of the Congress Government’s decision taken in 2012.
Mr. Upadhyay, who is also the Standing Committee Chairman of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, and other political office bearers of the three corporations met Union Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday to apprise him about the functional problems in the civic bodies.
“The delegation told the Home Minister that MCD trifurcation was done in 2012 in haste. It was done without ensuring adequate staff, financial viability and other administrative requirements. As a result of which despite the best efforts of the political wing, shortcomings remain in the working of municipal bodies. The Home Minister assured us that he would soon call a high- level meeting to solve the problems between the municipal bodies and Delhi Government,” the party said.
The MCD leaders said they have put forth several demands to improve the functioning of the civic bodies, which include de-freezing recruitment of safai karamcharis , beldars , gardeners, clerks, engineers, etc.; permitting the three Corporations to carry out development work in nearly 1,000 unauthorised colonies and restricting the role of the Delhi Police in monitoring construction activity.
The demand to put curbs on the Delhi Police has been raised amid widespread allegations of corrupt police personnel seeking money from people undertaking construction activity on their residential premises.
