INDORE: The month-long Devi Ahilyabai Punyatithi Samaroh to mark the death anniversary of Indore's legendary ruler Ahilyabai Holkar commenced at Gandhi Hall here on Sunday. The events will continue till the last week of August, which will include a debate competition, devotional hymns, a singing competition, a story-telling competition, an essay-writing competition, a fancy dress and patriotic song competition.
On Sunday, a drawing competition was organized for school students in two groups. The first round for students aged between 10 and 14 began at 10 am, whereas the competition for those up to 10 years of age was organized at 11 am.
"Students of middle school were given the theme of musical instruments, whereas no such theme was given to children in the junior category. More than 500 students from 40 different schools participated in a drawing competition whose results were announced immediately. Vaidehi Shiralkar from St. Raphael's School bagged the first position in the senior category while Sushmita Vishwas from Vaishnav Girl's School and Nandini Bhashawat from Choithram School secured second and third positions respectively.
Harsh Piplodia, Gaurishree Mandloi, Liza Tawar, Bhavesh Ahir and Vidhi Kundal were given consolation prizes in the senior category. Among juniors, Harshika Solanki of New Pink Flower School secured first position, whereas Mayank Sahu from Teerathbai Kalachand stood second, followed by Tanuja Ijjaini from New Pink Flower School.
"In juniors' category, consolation prizes were given to Ajay Sohni, Vanshika Atul, Samriddhi Rawal, Shreya Trivedi and Lokesh Barecha," Sudhir Dedage, media coordinator for the event informed. The prize distribution ceremony of all competitions will be held on August 24.
