Fire Accident: Mochi showroom gutted in Hyderabad

Second fire in building in four months, firemen suspect short-circuit

Hyderabad: Another fire mishap struck the Mochi building at Begumpet on Sunday. This is the second fire in the building in four months. A short- circuit completely gutted an under renovation shop on the ground floor of the Puja Edifice building located opposite Shoppers’ Stop.

Flames started erupting at around 7:10 am forcing four workers from Rajasthan to run out in panic. The fire damaged plywood and furniture costing Rs 3 lakh stored for renovation of the Mochi showroom. However, no casualties were reported.

A fire call was received at about 7:30 am at the fire control room. A snorkel and two fire tenders from the Secunderabad fire station and two more tenders from the secretariat fire station rushed to the spot. The flames were brought under control within an hour.

Police booked a case. “The fire is definitely of electrical origin. The estimated property loss according to the owner is about '3 lakh. Investigations are on,” said G. Venkateshwar, the fire officer at the Secunderabad fire station.

Inspector G. Baswa Reddy of Begumpet police station said, “There were no casualties or injuries.”

A similar fire occurred in the same building’s third floor on March 28 causing immense damage. Fire experts suspect the fire could have been caused by faulty electrical earthing.
