Traffic curbs across Ghaziabad for kanwariyas
GHAZIABAD: Traffic restrictions have been imposed throughout the district, with the arriving kanwariyas and light motor vehicles and two-wheelers having to share one half each of NH-58.
All schools and colleges in the district have already been ordered closed till July 25. "The closure of schools and colleges has been ordered to prevent both traffic congestion and any friction with the kanwariyas," an executive magistrate said.
Light motor vehicles entering Ghaziabad from Delhi, from the direction of Kaushambi, will now have to drive to NH-24, via UP Gate, to reach their trans-Hindon and sis-Hindon destinations. "However, LMVs and two-wheelers entering Delhi from the direction of Delhi's Ring Road can use NH-24 to reach their destinations in the city areas as usual," said Ghaziabad deputy superintendent of police (traffic), PP Karnwal.
He added that traffic coming from Hapur to Ghaziabad will be allowed on NH-24. But heavy vehicles will only be allowed up to industrial areas and not into the residential and other localities. Only light motor vehicles and two-wheelers will be allowed on NH-2. But further restrictions may soon be imposed.
Karnwal said, "On July 22, we will review the traffic situation in the city, and impose further traffic regulation if and where we find this necessary."
