Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Close on Fifth Summer Signing after Agreeing Deal for France Striker

Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement with Queen Park Rangers over the transfer of striker Loic Remy.

The Reds have reportedly triggered the release clause in the contract of the France striker, arrived at Loftus Road from Marsielle in January 2013, by making a bid of £8.5 million, according to the BBC.

Although north London sides Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were believed to be keen on landing Remy, who was very impressive during his loan spell at Newcastle United last season - scoring 14 goals in the Premier League, they cooled down their interest due the Frenchman's high wage demands.

So now the Reds, who are reportedly willing to meet Remy's wage demands, are now close to signing the former Marseille striker.

Liverpool, who are keen to strengthen their squad following the departure of their talisman Luis Suarez to Barcelona for a fee around £75 million, have reportedly been granted permission by QPR to hold talks with Remy.

The Frenchman, who is currently believed to be discussing personal terms with the Reds, is reportedly set to undergo a medical at Anfield within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, with the imminent arrival of Remy, Liverpool have reportedly agreed to sell their Italian striker Fabio Borini to Sunderland, according to the Black Cats manager Gus Poyet.

The 23-year-old striker, who spent the whole of last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, was impressive for Sunderland, scoring 10 goals in all competitions as the Black Cats successfully evaded relegation and reached the finals of the Capital One Cup (where they were eventually defeated by Manchester City).

Now Poyet has confirmed that Sunderland have agreed to make a permanent move for the Liverpool striker (for a reported transfer of £14 million), who arrived at Anfield from Parma in the summer of 2012 for £10.5 million.

"We've agreed terms with Liverpool and we are waiting for the documents to be signed and then we'll move on from there," Poyet told Sky Sports News. "Like any other deal you do, first you need to sort out the clubs and then you start working with the player."

"I'm hoping we can have him because he knows how much it would mean for us to have a player like Fabio," he added.
