Tottenham are interested in signing Manchester United target Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven.

According to the Mirror, Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bring the midfielder to north London and has been a fan of the player before he starred for the Netherlands in the recently concluded World Cup in Brazil.

Depay, was one of the star players in the Netherlands' run to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Brazil, where he scored some key goals against Australia and Chile. He was also one of the nominees for the best young player in the tournament.

The 20-year-old midfielder is highly rated by his current club and they will be unwilling to let him go easily. The player is said to be valued at £13m by PSV.

The Spurs are not the only club interested and could face competition from Premier League big guns Manchester United, who were rumoured to have launched a £15m bid for the midfielder.

However, Pochettino has been promised funds to bring in new players, and he is believed to want to put his own stamp on the team and make them capable of at least challenging for a Champions League spot.

The former Southampton boss is yet to make a signing after taking over the reins at White Hart Lane, and is keen to make Depay his first signing.

However, according to reports, the manager has been instructed to sell players before he can start rebuilding his team. The Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is keen to off-load players Emmanuel Adebayor, Lewis Holtby, Gylfi Sigurdsson and a few others before he commits any funds for new players.

There has been interest from clubs for the above mentioned players, but Levy, who is known to be a hard bargainer, is not willing to let any of the players leave on the cheap, thus making it hard for interested parties to agree a deal.
