Kolhapur: Shooter Rahi Sarnobat is likely to take charge as probationary deputy collector of Pune in August.
A state government committee, under chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, made the announcement on Saturday. The committee was formed last year to assist talented sportspersons by giving them direct appointments in various government sectors.
The ace shooter has to clear the internal examination of the revenue department in six months during the probation period.
At present, she is practising in Germany for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Scotland from July 22.
Talking to TOI over the phone, Sarnobat expressed hope that the government would extend same help to all budding sportspersons. "I am very happy that the state has appointed me as a deputy collector. Though I could not join the service due to the games, I am excited to share the new responsibility. I am sure the service would help me explore my sports career further," she said.
"I hope the government would help other budding players in the state. There is a huge untapped talent in Maharashtra which can be explored by giving timely assistance and guidance," the ace shooter added.
The state government has appointed Sarnobat as a class I officer. The government order stated: "Sarnobat has been appointed deputy collector in Pune's revenue department considering shooting facilities in the city".

Sarnobat had won a gold in the 25m sports pistol event at the ISSF World Cup held at Changwon in South Korea in 2013. She was the first Indian woman to achieve the fete. After the success, the chief minister had announced that the state will take care of Sarnobat's career.
Accordingly, the state gave her a cash reward of Rs 1 crore in June last year. She has taken part in various competitions across 17 countries and won 70 medals so far.
