CCB questions school staff

The Central Crime Branch (CCB), which has taken over the probe into the rape of the six-year-old girl in a private school, on Saturday questioned employees. The questioning went on late into the night.

The team was led by Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pronab Mohanty and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Abhishek Goyal.

Mr. Goyal told The Hindu that more than 40 people were questioned. However, he made it clear that not all of them are suspects and that the team was merely gathering information about the incident from the employees.

He said that the police are yet to achieve a breakthrough and the special team would, over the weekend, continue to question all those who may have been connected with the case.

Sources indicate that the inability of the child to identify the perpetrator is proving a hurdle.

Mr. Goyal said that there were 23 CCTV cameras on the premises, but none on the ground floor where the alleged incident took place. He further said that a special team of policemen is scrutinising footage recorded by the cameras in the past 15 days. He said that scrutiny of such a large quantity of footage is a laborious and time consuming process.
