The Rangoli Metro Art Centre will witness its 13th Community Drumjam, an open-for-all public drumming activity, on Sunday.

The event has been drawing nearly 500 people from all walks of life once a month. “The mood sets a rhythm which builds a pace for cultural bonhomie,” says singer-actress Vasundara Das, the main force behind the endeavour.

The event is a joint initiative by Drumjam, the worldwide drum-circle movement and the Bangalore Metro Rail Transport Corporation.

“The boulevard that Bangaloreans lost on M.G. Road for having the Namma Metro couldn’t have been put to better use as every art is experienced at the Rangoli Metro Art Centre,” says Ms. Das. Drumjam has been a real crowd-puller. The energy and the camaraderie can get infectious , she says. “This ‘bond for the beat’ even has 100 regulars from our group taking part every month. From high-brand officials to the man on the street, there couldn’t be a better leveller!” she says. Vasundara, along with her drummer husband Roberto Narain, has been trained by the founder of Drumjam, Mr. Arthur Hull at Hawaii.

Is jamming supposed to relieve the nerves for workaholics? “It’s the spirit that goes beyond being a stress-reliever,” she says. The intangible benefits are numerous as rhythm and vibration are associated with the heart, and the connect is at the primal level, she says.

So, if you want to celebrate the spirit behind the thump, join the crowd at Rangoli Metro Art Centre between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. today. After all, if you have a heart-beat, you will love rhythm, says Vasundara.
