Commuters on the Southern Sector Inner Ring Road, connecting Velachery Main Road and Grand Southern Trunk Road, have requested the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) to introduce bus services through Inner Ring Road connecting the other parts of the city.

“MTC can operate bus services from Keezhkattalai, Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam, Velachery Bus Terminus to Red Hills, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Guduvancheri, High Court, Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus, Ambattur Industrial Estate and Anna Square, through the Inner Ring Road,” commuters said.

Commuters from Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam, Adambakkam, Ram Nagar, Thillai Ganga Nagar, and Nanganallur will benefit greatly if MTC services are plied through the Ring Road, commuters pointed out.

S13, a feeder service from Velachery to Guindy, runs through Maduvangarai, NGO Colony, Brindhavan Nagar and Kakkan Bridge to reach Guindy. It would be good if more such feeder services and regular services were operated from Velachery, Medavakkam and Keezhkattalai to other parts of the city.

“I walk a distance of two to three kilometres to come to Velachery Inner Ring Road from Puzhuthivakkam,” said S. Balaji, a commuter.

Apart from this, commuters and pedestrians want speed-breakers, pedestrian crossings to be earmarked and barricades placed at critical points.

“ High-speed vehicular traffic poses a threat to pedestrians. Barricades and speed-breakers should be laid near Ananda Mahal Marriage Hall (Ram Nagar) and Sri Devi Karumari Amman Temple (Indian Bank Thillai Ganga Nagar Branch). Pedestrians have to risk their lives at these two points as the vehicles do not bother to stop for a minute. The stretch (Southern Sector Inner Ring Road) is used by college and company buses, cabs and other vehicles. Similarly, a pedestrian-crossing should be created at the junction of Inner Ring Road (AUDCO Colony) and M.K.N. Road,” pedestrians said.
