Malobika Banerjee is not the first actress who Subrata Sen is introducing with Sada Canvas. His films have served as launchpads for many.
He had met Malobika Banerjee at a year-end bash, where she expressed the desire to work with him. Impressed by the youngster, Subrata Sen wanted to cast her in Punglingo Streelingo, only to find that she was “too young“ for the role. So, when Sada Canvas happened, Malobika came across as the natural choice for Riya, an art college student, who has a crush on her teacher.
“The names of the main characters in Sada Canvas — Riya, Rupa (Paoli) and Anjan (Rohit Roy) are the same as my first movie, Ek Je Achhe Konya. Riya is a gutsy youngster, who asks her teacher Anjan to use her as the subject of his paintings, when the latter goes through a creative block," says the director. Though Malobika, who has done bit roles in films, gets her big break with Sada Canvas, Subrata is known to have introduced some of the top actresses to moviedom.
