Woman dies as house collapses in Purana Katra

ALLAHABAD: A woman was killed as a house collapsed under incessant rain in 200-year-old Purana Katra under the Colonelganj police station here on Friday afternoon. She was identified as 25-year-old Alka Jaiswal
Police said that the house was more than 80 years old and failed to withstand the incessant rain. The woman was staying as a tenant and was trapped beneath the debris.As soon as the house collapsed, locals rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation with assistance from the cops.
The police said that Alka suffocated to death under the debris. At the time of the mishap, her father Horilal had gone out.
Police had tough time pacifying aggrieved people, who assembled at the site venting their ire against the landlord.
They demanded strict action against the landlord for not making the requisite repairs in the house.
Following the incident, residents have demanded that Allahabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) authorities should identify dilapidated buildings in the area and erect warning boards.
