ROURKELA: Mother of Sujit Jojo, an undertrial prisoner (UTP) who attempted to commit suicide in Bonai special jail recently, has lodged a complaint with Odisha Human Rights Commission, alleging that he has been framed.
Jojo, who was brought to Bonai jail in a theft case on July 14, attempted suicide the next day. He was taken to Rourkela Government Hospital from where he was shifted to VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla.
Jail sources said Jojo climbed a tree and threatened to commit suicide. When the jail officials requested him to come down, he demanded liquor. The jail officials called the fire brigade to bring him down. But seeing the firemen, the UTP jumped from the tree and sustained multiple injuries.
His mother Jijina told the commission that he was forwarded to court by Railway Protection Force (RPF) in a false case. According to Jijina's petition, on July 13 Jojo and his friend Madhu Kerketa had gone to attend nature's call to a place near Dumerta railway station. While returning home, they had noticed a piece of polythene lying on way. The duo picked up the polythene, but in the meantime two RPF jawans reached the spot and took them to nearby RPF police station, claiming that the duo had stolen the polythene.
Later, RPF personnel told her that they have forwarded Jojo and Kerketa to Bonai court on charges of cable theft, Jijina wrote in her petition.
