KANPUR: A woman was raped on the night of May 28 by her neighbour under Bela police station of Auraiya. She headed to the police station hoping for justice but another trial awaited her. The cops made her run from the pillar to the post to get the case registered. It all ended on July 17, after SP took cognizance of her woes and ensured that the case was registered on the same day.
The victim was alone in her house when her neighbour Mukesh Kumar Gupta of Tirwa Road entered into the house and raped her. Her bid to raise an alarm was silenced by Gupta's threat of dire consequences. "I narrated the incident to my husband, who returned home the same night after being informed about it," the victim told TOI.
In her complaint to the SP, the victim claimed that she went to Bela police station along with her husband on May 29 to lodge a complaint. "However, the officer-on-duty not only refused to entertain the complaint but also forced us out of the station premises," she alleged. The woman's husband alleged that the police officer treated them as if they were the culprit and asked them to leave the police station.
Finally, the woman decided to approach the SP office and lodged a complaint. The SP directed the Bela police station house officer to lodge an FIR under sections 376 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code.
SP Akhilesh Chaurasiya said: "I came to know of the incident on Thursday. I will certainly look into the matter. If allegations are found true, suitable action will be taken against the police officer concerned."
