Mohammed Rafi held, cops close in on rapists?

Karnataka Government to strengthen Goonda Act
Bengaluru: In the wake of growing anger that has swept Bengaluru over the outrageous rape and sexual assault of two young women and a six year old child, the spurt in sexual assault cases has finally spurred the Karnataka government into announcing the strengthening of the Goonda Act, to book rape accused and the setting up of 10 more fast track courts that have hitherto proved completely ineffective.
The decision came as the Police inspector Mohammed Rafi over whose behaviour there is a huge question mark was arrested on Friday on charges of trying to dilute the case of the rape of a 22 year old woman in a car here on July 10. Hoping to douse criticism of being slow to act, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday pulled up the police top brass for the series of rapes under their watch. Mr Siddaramaiah, whom the cameras caught napping during the debate in the assembly, held a no-holds barred meeting with senior police officers where he made his displeasure clear to the police top brass for their failure to act against those accused of the multiple rape cases.
“The government has provided you all the facilities but you have not done your job," he said as the opposition BJP accusing the government of trying to shield the policeman attached to Pulikeshinagar police station. "It is a clear case of omission. He is arrested today," Sidddaramaiah said. adding it was for the first time that an Investigating Officer had been arrested in such a case. Mohammed Rafi was released on bail.
