Jurors to continue Guam murder trial deliberations

9:59 am on 19 July 2014

Jurors in a murder trial against a man accused of killing three Japanese tourists after a stabbing rampage on Guam, will continue their deliberations next week.

The Marianas Variety reports the jurors were dismissed on Friday, and will resume their closed door deliberations on Tuesday.

Prosecutors say 22-year-old Chad Ryan De Soto knew what he was doing when he drove his car down a sidewalk, crashed into a convenience store, then got out and stabbed bystanders.

De Soto has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect to charges of aggravated murder and attempted murder.

The Japan Times reports that closing arguments ended with the defendant reiterating his client's mental illness.

Eleven others were injured in last year's attack in Tumon.
