The victim has been identified as Darshan, a resident of Mahipalpur area.

A 30-year-old taxi driver was shot dead near the automated mail sorting area adjacent to Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Friday afternoon. Police suspect personal enmity to be the motive for the murder.

According to police, the incident was reported around 2.30 pm on Friday near the New Customs house building at IGIA. The victim has been identified as Darshan, a resident of Mahipalpur area.

According to police, Darshan had gone to deliver food to the priest at the Jwala Devi mandir when four unidentified men in a white car came and opened fire at him.

“Based on eyewitness accounts, we have learnt that they did not speak with Darshan. They just opened fire at him. It seems they had come determined to kill him. They fired at least six times and fled,” a senior police officer said.

Police said Darshan ran a transport business and had three taxis. “He was seated outside the temple with the food he had brought for the priest. The men opened fire and by the time the priest came out, the men had fled. We have recovered empty cartridges from the spot. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of personal enmity” the officer said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGIA) MI Haider said, “We have registered a case under appropriate sections of the IPC. We are suspecting personal enmity. But all angles are being investigated.”
