A major cable fault has plunged almost half of Patna into darkness, forcing the state energy department to approach a technical expert from Satna in Madhya Pradesh to rectify the glitch that may take a week.
Till then, affected areas of the state capital will have to content with rotational power supply for 10-16 hours a day.
The Bihar government, which boasts of improved power situation and takes it as the USP of second term of the JD(U) regime, faces more embarrassment as the major fault was caused by a JCB machine of a construction company engaged by the state for construction of the elevated Digha-AIIMS road here.
The 132 KV Digha-Khagaul’s second circuit cable was damaged at around 3 pm Saturday because of the ongoing construction work by the company that has been now asked to cough up the heavy repair cost.
The government has also been coordinating with the municipal corporation to avail water tankers in affected areas.
Energy Secretary Pratyaya Amrit said the joining kits could be used only by technical experts, not available in Bihar.
