Nilamber Pitamber University VC inspects hostel room after accident
DALTONGANJ: On Friday, the vice chancellor of Nilamber Pitamber University, A N Ojha inspected GLA college boys' hostel, where a huge patch of the ceiling of a room in the tribal block had collapsed on the night of July 16. The inmate of the room, Arun Kumar, an M Sc final year student of Mathematics, said the debris of the ceiling would have hit his head, had he not gone out of the room just a few seconds before the rubble came off from the ceiling.
The VC has asked the hostel in charge, Kailash Oraon to get the room vacated immediately. Each room of the hostel on an average has four beds and Room no.5 is no exception .The inmates of the damaged room will have to adjust in other rooms in the meantime.
Ojha has further asked the Convener of College Development Council, R R Kishore and Oraon to apprise the district welfare officer about the deplorable condition of the scheduled tribe block of the hostel.
Kishore has been asked to take the help of a junior engineer to devise measures of repair. The estimate of the repair is yet to be prepared.
However, a major issue of concern is who is going to be held responsible for the damage, the district welfare office or the Nilamber Pitamber University.
At present district welfare officer has taken over the scheduled tribe block of this hostel for ST students.
In the larger interest of the inmates of this hostel, the university is gearing up to further persuade the welfare officer to step in and undertake the repair work.
