All eyes will be on local lad and 2013 bronze medallist Ragi Rajnikanth in this year’s Deloitte Monsoon Regatta, which will commence at Hussainsagar lake from July 1. He and a few other promising local sailors will be among the more than 100 sailors from all over India taking part in the event being conducted by the Yacht Club of Hyderabad.

Competitions have been lined up in various classes of boats including the Topper class, Omega Optimist and Indopti class. In the Optimist fleet, local lad Rishab Nayyar of Silver Oaks School and Leela Sagar of Udbhav School are all set to contend for the top spot.

Sagar and Rishab finished fourth and fifth respectively at the last nationals and are bound to close in on medal winning positions with their extensive knowledge of the shifting winds of the Hussainsagar lake.

Siblings Juhi and Tanishq Desai from DPS in the Optimist Class and Revanth Banda from DRS are also names to watch out for. Ananya Chauhan from Gitanjali is among the favourites in the girls’ section. A new entrant in sailing is Anisha Tandon from Chirec.

Sailors from Mumbai, Chennai and Goa are also participating. The Yatch Club has also tied up with several non-governmental organisations like Project 511, Naandi Foundation, LSN Foundation, Rotary Deccan and Akaanksha and this will be the first event where economically-challenged kids from all these foundations will be participating.
