City shuttlers struggled on the fourth day of the Gautam Thakkar Memorial All India Junior Ranking Badminton tournament in Mumbai on Thursday.

NAGPUR: City shuttlers struggled on the fourth day of the Gautam Thakkar Memorial All India Junior Ranking Badminton tournament in Mumbai on Thursday.
Barring the exception of Mrunmayi Saoji, all the other city shuttlers failed to cross the first round hurdle in the U-17 and U-19 girls singles.
Mrunmayi started well in the U-19 girls singles when she ousted Isha Dash 21-15, 21-13 in just 23 minutes.
However later in the evening, Mrunmayi went down fighting against ninth seed JK Malavika 18-21, 14-21.
The other city girls in the fray Vaishnavi Bhale, Mugdha Agrey and Pallavi Pitale lost in the first round of main draw.
However, all these city girls are in contention in the doubles events, which will get underway on Friday.

(Round 1) U-19 girls singles: Mrunmayi Saoji bt Isha Dash 21-15, 21-13; Vaishnavi Bhale lost to 3-Shriyanshi Pardeshi 18-21, 14-21; Mugdha Agrey lost to M Tanishq 9-21, 21-17, 13-21; Pallavi Pitale lost to Riya Mookerjee 10-21, 12-21
U-17 girls singles: Mugdha Agrey lost to 7-Anura Prabhudesai 12-21, 11-21; Pallavi Pitale lost to 16-Praanjal Taneja 17-21, 10-21.
