The vigilance and anti-corruption wing personnel on Thursday secured Vriddhachalam tahsildar Viswanathan for having taken a bribe of Rs. 10,000 for cancelling a forged patta.

Police sources said that Ganesan (48), a farmer in Poondiankuppam near Vriddhachalam, lodged a complaint with the district administration stating that somebody else had managed to get the patta transfer for the land owned by him (Mr. Ganesan). Therefore, he sought the cancellation of the forged patta and reissuance of the patta in his name. However, the tashildar demanded Rs. 10,000 in cash. Policemen in plain clothes caught the tahsildar when money was exchanged.
