After 6 2/3 lackluster innings for the Sugar Land Skeeters and one memorable all-star appearance, former NBA star Tracy McGrady retired from baseball on Wednesday. McGrady started the independent Atlantic League’s All-Star Game before hanging up his spikes.
T-Mac struck out the last batter he faced, Atlantic League All Star Bryan Pounds, before walking off the mound to the applause of his teammates. The strikeout was the first and only “K” of McGrady’s baseball career and he kept the baseball for his mantle.
“That is definitely going in the trophy case,” he said from the dugout following his outing. “I told some of the guys that I am going to get a strikeout before I stop playing. I got it in the second inning. Thank you Jesus.”
McGrady posted a 6.75 ERA and walked 10 batters in his four outings with the Skeeters, not exactly Major League material. But then, McGrady still managed to get some professional baseball players out, which is pretty impressive for a 35-year-old guy who hadn’t played competitively since his junior year of high school.
