DGVCL sacks 2 meter readers for irregularities
SURAT: Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL) has terminated the services of its two meter readers for dereliction of duty and indulging in corrupt practices on Thursday. Official sources said the vigilance department had undertaken a surprise checking drive in the industrial units located at Sachin GIDC and Rander areas in the first week of July 2014. Around 10 industrial units, both in Sachin GIDC and Rander's Sai Industrial Estate, were caught with irregularities to the tune of Rs 84.81 lakh.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of the meter readers of the respective sub-stations. It was found that the meter readers facilitated the industrial unit owners by showing less electricity usage and keeping the meter readings pending for a long time. The accused have been identified as Pragnesh Dhimmar, junior assistant meter reader employed with Sachin Industrial Zone-1 and Atul Kayasth, junior assistant serving at Udhna Industrial-Zone-1.
