GURGAON: HUDA Zone-III's drinking water pipeline on Sohna Road burst around 12.30am on Thursday causing traffic snarls near Subhash Chowk. The pipeline, which was fixed late in the evening, is connected to the master pipeline from Chandu Budhera water treatment plant.
The Huda officials, who reached the spot at 8.30am, said that over 1,000 litres of water had already spilled on to the road by that time.
V K Sheokand, executive engineer, said that from Subhash Chowk the pipeline bifurcates with one line going towards Huda City Centre and the other to Sohna Road.
"This new pipe to Sohna Road had been laid earlier this year and probably the pipe burst owing to excessive pressure. Our officials have been carrying out repair work since morning, but the work was stalled for some time by the rain. The pipe was fixed only at 7pm," said Sheokand.
"Some residents living near the Vatika Buisness Tower informed us about the water leakage. The water that had spilled on to the road had caused traffic jams near Subhash Chowk. The situation was worsened by the rain. We managed to fix the line by late evening," said Kataria.
