The third round of the MMSC-FMSCI national racing championship will be held at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam here this weekend.

The MRF FF1600, the fastest single-seater racing category, and the Indian Touring Car (ITC) will be joined by the Formula LGB1300, the Indian Junior Touring Car (IJTC) and the all new Super Stock category in this championship.

The two-day event will also feature the Etios Motor Racing (EMR) Trophy, which is making its debut in this part of the region.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, on Thursday, announced its return to the racing circuits for the 2014 season. It will be held alongside the third and fifth round of the national event.

The second round in Chennai saw some exciting performances from upcoming racer Tarun Reddy, IJTC champion Feroze Khan and current ITC leader Arjun Narendran. Tarun will start as clear favourite in the MRF FF1600 class. Advait Deodhar and Vikash Anand will be keen to give the 16-year-old a run for his money.

Winning form

Narendran maintained a clean slate in the ITC category. He will look forward to continuing his winning form here. B. Vijayakumar, Ashish Ramaswamy and Vidyuth Iyer will certainly chalk out plans to halt his streak.

The IJTC will have 27 cars on the grid, but all eyes will be on defending champion Feroze Khan.

It will be a three-way battle between championship leader Ajay Kini, Goutham Parekh and S. Narendran in the Formula LGB1300 category.

The Coimbatore round will witness 16 races in two days. The practice sessions will be held on July 18 followed by qualifying and main races on July 19 and 20.
