Gas leak at Worli Naka after snag at CNG outlet

The incident occurred at the Ganpatrav Kadam Marg near the Shiv Sena Bhavan.

A technical snag at a CNG outlet in Worli Naka led to a gas leakage Thursday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) disaster department, the incident occurred at the Ganpatrav Kadam Marg near the Shiv Sena Bhavan where labourers from the Mahanagar Gas had undertaken maintenance works on underground pipes.

“We rushed four fire engines to assist the BMC officials and Mahanagar Gas officials who reported to the site at the time of the incident. The leakage was stopped immediately, ,” said a senior fire brigade official from the Mumbai Fire Brigade. Officials from the G/South ward office, which includes Worli, had shut the valves of the pipeline on either side to carry out repairs. Officials also sprayed water to cool the gas. “The area was cordoned-off and we diverted vehicles from Lower Parel towards Worli Sea Link as a precaution and to prevent inconvenience to the public,” said a traffic official.

A statement issued by the Mahanagar Gas Limited said, “We have temporarily suspended the operations of the outlet as a precautionary measure. Repairs are in progress…There has been no damage to life or property but we apologise for the inconvenience caused to the public.”
