July 16–More than $7 million in renovation work is slated at the Sheraton Memphis Downtown, the 600-room hotel adjoining Memphis Cook Convention Center.

A building permit for $4.5 million in guest room renovations was issued last week to First Finish Inc. A second permit was issued to Graycor Construction Company Inc. for a $2.6 million renovation of lobby and restaurant, including converting the existing bar and gift shop into meeting space.

The renovations come nearly a year after the hotel was converted from a Hilton to Sheraton and placed under management of Atlanta-based Davidson Hotels & Resorts.

The hotel, the city’s largest, opened in 1984 as Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza and was later a Marriott.

Host Hotels & Resorts Inc., a real estate investment trust in Bethesda, Md., headed by Richard E. Marriott, owns the property.
