Director Vishal Bhardwaj, who has also composed the music for his next venture, Haider, has confirmed that both Tabu and Shraddha Kapoor have sung a track each in the film. The Haider album will have 10 songs, all of which will be used in the film, albeit in different ways. While some will be a part of the narrative, some will be part of the background score and a few will see the actors lip syncing.
While, it was known that Tabu has crooned a version of the popular Kashmiri folk song, Roshe vallo, Shraddha recently recorded another track. “Actually, we were planning to keep it a surprise, but yes, I have sung a number in this film and so has Tabu ma’am. I am looking forward to the response,” mentioned Kapoor. When asked if Tabu and Shraddha underwent any specific training for their songs, Bhardwaj stated that the duo worked on hitting the right notes on their own. “They did everything themselves. Getting the right diction and pronounciation was as important as singing melodiously. So, both of them had a few diction sessions with our local trainer, Muzammil. And if you listen to Tabu’s version of Roshe vallo, she has rendered it beautifully, while Shraddha has sung her track with perfect emotions. Earlier, the plan was to dub the lines the actors had sung while shooting, but we decided to do away with the idea of roping in a singer and stick to the original voice,” mentioned Bhardwaj.
Talking about her experience, Tabu added, “I had no idea that I will have to sing for the album too. I was just training to sing the lines for the scene and was trying to make sure that I don’t hit the wrong note, because it was being recorded as a live sound. Though I was a little anxious, I knew that Vishal will take care of my singing.” Interestingly, Kay Kay Menon too has sung a few lines during the live recording. Bhardwaj joked that he wanted Menon to sing out of tune, but the latter just couldn’t do so and instead, ended up singing in perfect rhythm.
Lyricist Gulzar has written the songs for Haider and among the host of singers who have crooned for the album include Sukhwinder Singh, Arijit Singh and Rekha Bhardwaj among others. “The songs will have a strong Kashmiri flavour to it, blended with hard rock, but we have not tried to experiment. The music will stay true to the requirements of the film. Poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz ki ek nazm bhi hain, jisko Rekha (Bhardwaj) ne gaaya hain,” stated Bhardwaj.
While talking about the promotional strategy of the music, Siddharth Roy Kapur – MD, Disney India mentioned, “We are planning a grand music launch, where the stars of the evening will be Tabu and Shraddha. Other plans will unfold as we go along and there is something in store to promote each song. So yes, we are going all out to promote the music, because I personally believe Haider has a spectacular soundtrack.”
