2014 Ladies Gaelic Football Championship launched

The 2014 TG4 Ladies Gaelic Football Championship was launched this week at Croke Park.

The competition gets underway with qualifier matches on Saturday July26, with matches being shown live on TG4.

Defending champions Cork will be favourites to retain their title and are no doubt full of confidence after beating Kerry in the Munster final last week.

But Leinster champions Dublin will have their say and there will be tough games in the qualifiers to prepare other teams for the later stages.

The final will be held in Croke Park on September 28 and the association are hoping that 2014 will be the biggest year yet.

LGFA president, Pat Quill, spoke of the importance of strong support from within the participating counties.

“It is imperative that in 2014 we see our own clubs and counties turn out to support their own and not just in the TG4 All Ireland Final,” said Quill at the launch.

“Some of the best games in the championship happen in the qualifiers. If you support your own in the early rounds it will make it even more special if your captain is the one to climb the Hogan Stand steps on September 28.”

“At last year’s TG4 All Ireland Final there were 25,000 in attendance,” he continued. “We have proven the interest is there and there is no doubt that the entertainment and skill levels on display are worthy of the larger attendances. So, together with our friends in TG4, we are calling on supporters of our game and all female sports to Be the Difference. Be There.”
