Alleging police inaction due to political interference in a case of abetment to suicide of a Kharar resident in May this year, the victim’s family has demanded CBI probe into the matter. Holding a press conference on Wednesday, the family members alleged that the two people named in the suicide note are roaming free due to their proximity to politicians and influential people in Haryana and Punjab.
Gurdial Singh, the deceased, shot himself at Shivalik Avenue in Kharar on May 30. In his suicide note, he blamed Hardial Singh ‘Giani’ and Sukhwinder Singh ‘Happy’, residents of Rasida village in Jind, Haryana, and said that the two had forcibly grabbed his land in Patiala and various other places, forcing him to take the extreme step. Both of them were then booked for abetting Gurdial’s suicide under Section 306 of the IPC at the Kharar (Sadar) police station.
On Wednesday, Gurdial’s son Baljinder Singh alleged that the police are deliberately letting the accused roam free who have been threatening his family and warning them of dire consequences if they continue to pursue the case. “SHO Surjeet Singh asked us to end the matter in a compromise as both the accused are influential and have good relations with a top Haryana politician, and several politicians in Punjab. That is the reason the police are making no headway into the case,” alleged Baljinder. Police, however, denied all allegations. “Both the accused are absconding and investigation into the case is on,” said SHO Surjeet Singh.
