Agriculture college student dies in road accident

Rohit Mahale (22) hailed form Raver, Jalgaon and had been staying in the village Kauthadi in Daund Taluka with six others

A fourth year student of College of Agriculture, Pune was killed in a road accident on Wednesday morning in Daund. The student was part of a group of students staying in a village in the Daund taluka as part of the Rural Agriculture Work Experience (RAWE) programme which requires students to spend a semester in the village working and interacting with farmers. Another student got injured in the accident.

According to college authorities the student Rohit Mahale (22) hailed form Raver, Jalgaon and had been staying in the village Kauthadi in Daund Taluka with six other students since June 15 this year.

As per Baramati Police, the incident happened at about 8.15 am on Wednesday.

“The duo were riding a Honda CBZ bike and were going towards Baramati from village Kauthadi using the highway when their bike was crushed by a speeding container. Mahale died on the spot while Patil received several serious injuries including a limb fracture. The driver of the container has been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the IPC,” said an official with the Baramati Police.

Aejaz Syed, assistant registrar with the College said, “We got to know about the accident by 9 am. The principal and several other officials had gone to the spot and arranged for the body to be taken to Jalgaon.”
