Food, itself, is the flavour of the season.

Offering an array of food and snack stalls, the annual food festival hosted by the Tourism Department with the tagline, ‘Treat your taste buds to global cuisine,’ will put to test the adage that the way to someone’s heart is through the stomach.

The five-day food festival that got under way at the Old Port on Beach Road on Wednesday coincides with the commencement of arrivals of its home-bound Franco-Tamil population and holidayers from Europe.

Foodies get to choose from a range of French, Italian, Chinese to Vietnamese delicatessen apart from South and North Indian cuisine from leading restaurateurs in Puducherry, Chennai and Bangalore . Participants have put up over 35 stalls .

Tourism Minister P. Rajavelu inaugurated the event in the presence of W.V.R.Murthy, Tourism Secretary, K. K. Singh, Tourism director, and Vaiyapuri Manikandan, chairman, Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation. The festival will be on till July 20 and has facilities for dining as well. Open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., visitors will be charged Rs. 10 as entry fee. Entry is free for children.
