A road linking Colombia's three southern jungle departments with the rest of the country was destroyed Wednesday by the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), leaving the regions isolated, a Colombian official said.

The governor of Guaviare, Jose Rivera, said a powerful explosive device was detonated, leaving a 10-meter-deep crater, with a diameter of 20 meters, in the road.

"The attack occurred early this morning and it cut off the traffic between the departments of Guaviare, Vaupes and Mega. We are currently isolated," Rivera told local media.

The road was the only connection between the three jungle departments. Rivera said there is "no alternative" to connect the three "where there is a strong presence of the FARC rebels."

According to the governor, a reward of 20 million Colombian pesos (around 10,700 U.S. dollars) has been offered for anyone who provides information leading to the capture of the FARC rebels responsible for the attack.

Authorities are also taking measures to ensure the supply of food and other consumer goods.

The FARC, founded in the 1960s, is the largest insurgency group in Colombia. The government of Colombia is currently holding peace talks with the FARC rebels, seeking to end a 50-year-long civil conflict. Endi
