A day after Glenda, milkfish appear near MMDA pumping station in Mandaluyong

A day after Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun) battered Metro Manila with strong winds and heavy rain, bangus (milkfish) appeared near a pumping station of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in Mandaluyong City.

Residents rushed to catch the milkfish, which they said could have come from fish pens in Laguna Lake damaged by Glenda, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported.

"Buhay sila, nasa gilid ... Kaya lumulutang sila, hindi sila sanay sa tabang kaya pwede mo sila hulihin kahit kamay lang," said resident Romeo Valencia.

Valencia said they planned to have the fish swim in water until they weaken, then prepare them for frying.

He said the milkfish would appear after a cyclone.

The dzBB report said the fish appeared at the pumping station of the MMDA at San Francisco Street in Mandaluyong City.

Many residents brought fish nets and pails to contain the fish they would catch, it added.

On Wednesday, Glenda battered Metro Manila and some areas in southern Luzon. It left at least 20 dead before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Thursday. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
