COIMBATORE: A city school has fitted GPS and GPRS devices to their buses to monitor the vehicles and improve safety for their students. The system can be accessed by both the school and parents and will allow them to track every movement of the bus.
No more does a parent, whose child studies at National Model Senior Secondary School, have to wait at a bus stop more than five minutes to pick up or drop their child.
"Parents will get an SMS alerting them when the bus is two stops before theirs, so they can reach the stop," says Geetha Lakshman, the principal. "They can also track their child's bus' location. So, they will not worry if the bus is late," she adds.
The school appointed a committee to monitor the vehicles. "The vehicles have also been fitted with a system where the driver can notify the management in case of an emergency or a breakdown with just the press of a button," she says .The school's CBSE and matriculation branches have 47 transporting around 1,600 students to and from school. The system was inaugurated on Wednesday by the deputy commission (traffic) T K Rajasekaran.
