Civic center to offer women’s empowerment event

"We are trying to put together a gathering of strong female role models throughout the community," Brooks said. "The point is for people to be open and encouraging about the opportunities for women in the community and beyond. The outcome is empowerment, education and connection. My hope is for people to meet someone they have never met before and learn from their experiences."
Those attending the event will have the opportunity to interact with panelists in an informal setting, discussing topics such as setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles, discovering and realizing dreams, giving back to the community and being empowered as women.

"In order to have a positive generation of women, they need to hear from women who can tell them truthfully, without sugar coating, how things really are," Lanier said. "I have so much that I would like to share, and I am looking forward to participating in this diverse group discussion. If one attendee gathers a tip that will aid her professional growth, then I will consider the event a tremendous success. I feel honored and privileged to have been asked."
