World shooting championship: Tejaswini not in squad for World meet

World and Olympic medallist Gagan Narang will not compete in his favourite event — air rifle — in the World shooting championship to be staged in Granada, Spain, from September 6 to 20.

When the selectors met here on Tuesday to select the team of 29 shooters in men’s section, 18 women, 27 junior men and 16 junior women, the world champion in women’s rifle prone event who had shot a world record in Germany in 2010, Tejaswini Sawant could not find a place in the squad.

The teams:Men: Rifle: Sanjeev Rajput, Gagan Narang, Chain Singh, Hariom Singh, Joydeep Karmakar, Abhinav Bindra, Ravi Kumar, Nale Amol Bhagwan, Rahul Poonia and Anil Pal Singh; Pistol: Vijay Kumar, Pemba Tamang, Gurpreet Singh, Harpreet Singh, Samaresh Jung, Mahaveer Singh, Jitu Rai, Gurpal Singh, Om Prakash and Prakash Nanjappa; Shotgun: Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Kynan Chenai, Prithviraj Tondaiman, Mairaj Ahmad Khan, Man Sinh, Arozepal Singh Sandhu, Ankur Mittal, Mohd. Asab and Sangram Dahiya.

Women: Rifle: Lajja Gauswami, Tejaswini Muley, Anjali Bhagwat, Kuheli Gangulee, Meena Kumari, Raj Chaudhary, Ayonika Paul and Kiranjit Kaur; Pistol: Anisa Sayyed, Rahi Sarnobat, Heena Sidhu, Shweta Chaudhary and Annu Raj Singh; Shotgun: Shreyasi Singh, Shagun Chowdhary, Seema Tomar, Arti Singh and Saniya Sheikh.

Junior men: Rifle: Akhil Sheoran, Ninad Chaudhari, Subhankar Parmanick, Swapnil Kusale, Ishan Goel, Prashant, Ekambir Singh Mandi and Satyamm Chauhan; Pistol: Samarjit Singh, Pardeep, Vishwajeet Singh, Rushiraj Barot, Amrinder Chauhan, Achal Pratap, Sumedh Devlalivala, Vishwajeet Singh, Vikas Dhama and Shahzar Rizvi; Shotgun: Manavaditya Rathore, Abhay Singh Rathore, Adhiraj Singh Rathore, Angadvir Singh Bajwa, Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Karam Sukhbir Singh, Jaisal Singh, Priyanshu Pandey and Aamir Rizvi.

Junior women: Rifle: Elizabeth Susan Koshy, Priyal Keni, Anjum Moudgil, Aayushi Gupta, Mampi Das and Shriyanka Sadangi; Pistol: Shreya Gawande, Gauri Sheoran, P. Shri Nivetha, Malaika Goel and Yashaswini Deswal; Shotgun: Varsha Varman, Mahima Kumar Mahajan, Malika Wig, Maheshwari Chauhan and Jasmeen Dhadli.
