PATNA: Water resources department (WRD) minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhury on Wednesday informed the legislative assembly that the state government had allocated Rs 16 crore under the annual plan for protection of Buxar-Koelwar embankment.
Replying to a starred question of Munni Devi (BJP), he said since the Union government did not give money for the embankment, the state government has allocated funds from its annual budget.
He admitted the work has been delayed by five years. The Union government had approved the project under the flood management scheme in December, 2009.
Due to delay in land acquisition at eight places, the embankment could not be constructed in a length of 7km. The Centre has again been requested to include the scheme under flood management programme and strengthen the embankment, the WRD minister said
Road construction department (RCD) minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh informed the House the department's flying squad would check the quality of materials used in construction of Sakri-Bahera road in Darbhanga district. He told Lalit Kumar Yadav (RJD) that the contractor concerned had completed the Rs 13-crore work within the stipulated period and quality standards were maintained. In the recent rain, some potholes had developed at certain points, he said. The department paid the contract amount to the contractor after completion of work. Lalit Yadav, however, alleged the road was of very poor quality.
The RCD minister told Usha Sinha (JD-U) that Nalanda DM has been asked to identify land for construction of a bypass on Daniyawa-Hilsa road for smooth traffic movement. He hoped the bypass would be ready by May 31, 2015.
Labour resources minister Dulal Chand Goswami, while replying to a starred question of Gopalji Thakur (BJP) said in the last four years, 375 private industrial training centres had been opened in the state. The government will set up 110 skill development centres in Darbhanga after getting approval from the Union labour ministry. Skill development centres will be opened in Baheri and Biroul panchayats too and 20 schools in the district have been selected for establishment of such centres.

During zero hour, Prem Kumar (BJP) raised the issue of lathicharge on contract teachers in Patna on Tuesday and demanded action against the cops responsible for it. His party colleague, Arun Shankar Prasad condemned the lathicharge and requested the government to hold talks with the agitating teachers. Dinesh Kumar Singh (RJD) demanded compensation to the families of two school kids who were killed at Dhanauti in Bhojpur district on Tuesday in a collision between a train and a school van.
