The fourth edition of the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon, India’s second largest marathon, will be held on August 24, according to Venkatesh Vijayraghavan, CEO, Bharti Airtel, A.P. and Telangana.

Mr. Venkatesh said the event would feature three categories - full marathon of 42.2 km, the half-marathon and the 5 km run. “We hope that the response to this event, which now ranks among Asia’s top marathons, is good,” he said.

Kali Kondury, spokesperson, Hyderabad Runners, which organises the marathon, mentioned that it was the toughest marathon in the country. About 10,000 people of all age groups are expected to participate. “The fact that the Hyderabad Marathon had 1,200 participants in the 2011 edition and 10,000 are expected this time is proof of its growing popularity and prestige,” Mr. Kali explained.

The Marathon carries a total prize money of Rs. 5 lakh and many from abroad, including Kenya and Japan, are expected to be in the fray. Interested participants may visit www.marathonhyderabad.com.

The event also has a noble cause - Soul for Souls - as the organisers expect to raise Rs. 30 lakh for charitable institutions like Isha Vidhya, Waste Warriors, Asha and Desire Society.
