Cross media co Screenz raises $5m

Screenz's app was used for the Rising Star format bought by ABC.

Nearly three years after it was founded, Ramat Gan based cross-media company Screenz, which develops complementary applications for the media, has raised $5 million in funding from Marker LLC. The financing will enable Screenz to expand R&D, accelerate the growth of its technological capabilities, expand global activities and enter new markets.

As the TV landscape changes and evolves, Screenz is answering industry needs by creating new ways to foster genuine engagement with the viewer. Marker’s investment will facilitate further development of Screenz’s groundbreaking technologies, leveraging the media acumen of their in-house content creators (TV format developers, screenwriters) and core technology developers to co-create 360 interactive formats and digital assets for unprecedented entertainment solutions.

“Screenz is a leader in the emerging interactive television sector and is helping to navigate the future of the industry,” says Marker LLC Partner Rick Scanlon. “The company has already created real-time interactive experiences at large scale with globally renowned entertainment companies. Marker is thrilled to partner with Screenz and support its rapid growth.”

With Screenz’s inventive technology for Rising Star, ABC won the ratings battle on Sunday night among adults 18-49 by incorporating new tech and real-time app-based voting in the live reality talent show. The show also scored the highest rating for the network of a summer debut in two years. Sold into 26 territories, this format uses one of an extensive suite of products featured on Screenz’s Real Time Platform.

Screenz CEO Eli Uzan said, “The evolving media landscape creates a multitude of opportunities for Screenz to partner with broadcasters to make traditional TV and second screen experiences inseparable."

Screenz also recently joined forces with Google to extend the reach of its real-time technology.
