Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said the government will step in if the activities of the Kerala Police Association cross the limit.
Replying to questions in the Assembly on Tuesday, the Minister said Section 109 of the Kerala Police Act allows the functioning of police associations for the welfare of the police personnel. The government has taken seriously the views expressed by the High Court and is closely watching the activities of the association. The government has got ample powers to control the association if it crosses the limit, he said.

In connection with the incidents during the elections to the society functioning under the police association in Kannur, 22 personnel had been suspended. Disciplinary action had been initiated against some personnel by the City Police Commissioner in Thiruvananthapuram.
Mr. Chennithala said the activities of the police association had not affected the discipline of the Kerala Police. The association was also giving positive inputs for the functioning of the police force, he said.
The Minister said the department was not giving sensitive postings to the police personnel accused in heinous criminal cases.

Bottled waterHealth Minister V. S. Sivakumar said seven firms that were providing substandard bottled drinking water had been closed and another one fined. The licence or registration of the Food Safety Department and BIS certificate are mandatory for selling bottled drinking water in the State. The provisions of Food Safety and Standards (Food Products and Food Additives) Regulation of 2011 are being enforced in the State. Seven squads had been set up for inspecting the quality of water, he said adding that the government had no control over price.
