NTPC?s hopes of getting any relief from CERC?s stringent tariff regulations have been dashed. The regulator has refused to show any leniency in the matter. Now, the state-owned generator can only pray that it gets some relief from the Delhi High Court where it has challenged the regulations. NTPC chairman
Arup Roy Choudhury may have turned around the PSU?s project management function, but now he faces the tougher challenge of protecting the company?s bottom lines in the face of new CERC regulations.
Throwing a lifeline
There is finally light at the end of tunnel for telcos BSNL and MTNL, afflicted by terminal sickness. It seems the government is indeed serious about capital infusion to revive the two PSUs. Telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has recently told the Rajya Sabha that the government is readying a revival package for the PSUs. We hope the proposed capital infusion brings some lasting improvement in financial health of the telcos.
