LAHORE - A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday restrained an anti-terrorism court from giving final verdict in the murder case of Farzana, who was battened to death for marrying a man she loved.
However, the bench directed the trial court to continue its proceedings and sought record of the case by August 04. A division bench, headed by Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu and comprised of Justice Sikandar Zulqarnain, heard the case.
Muhammad Azeem, the main accused, through his counsel had pleaded the court that Iqbal kidnapped her daughter Farzana and forcibly married her. He said that the case registered against him and his other family members was based on sections of anti-terrorism act while both the parties had an old enmity. The petitioner said that the Anti-Terrorism Act’s sections could not be included in FIR of a case, based on old enmity. He requested the bench to remove the ATA sections from the FIR and fix the case at sessions court instead of the anti-terrorism court.
The bench, after hearing the arguments, restrained the ATC from giving final verdict over the case. However, the bench directed the ATC to continue the proceedings and submit record by August 04.
