AHMEDABAD: In Muslim-dominated areas, food joints and restaurants are busy dishing out delicacies in the night during Ramzan. Preparations start in the afternoon and the food joints come alive in the evening.
This Ramzan, all licensed food joints have been permitted to remain open from 4am to 1am. The city police chief has issued a notification that the food joints can remain open for these extended hours during Ramzan but the only precondition is they should not cause a hindrance to traffic.
The notification for the normal days states that
hotels and restaurants having valid licences can remain open from 5am to 11.30pm. "During the holy month of Ramzan, people throng food joints at night and during early morning hours for saher," said city police chief
Shivanand Jha.
The favourite destinations for the foodies are Gomtipur, Kalupur, Dariapur, Bhathiyar Gali near Tin Darwaza, Juhapura and Shah-e-Alam. Besides traditional Ahmedabad's tawa (fry centres), Chinese and Middle-East recipes are made available here.
"After iftar, we offer tarabi, a special namaz during the month of Ramzan. We then go to food joints and enjoy delicacies till late night," said Aslam Khan, a resident of Juhapura.
On the other hand, Paldi resident
Hafiz is fond having saher at food joints in Juhapura. "Tasty chicken delicacies are available in Juhapura. I always go to these joints during Ramzan for saher in the morning," said Hafiz.
Jamalpur, Bhatiyaar Gali and Dhalgarwad are famous for grilled tikkas and tawa food. "We often go to these areas to have taste of spicy hot food," said Arif and Ayyan.
